West Corridor Overview


The West Corridor will be a 12.1-mile light rail transit corridor between the Denver Union Station in downtown Denver and the Jefferson County Government Center in Golden, serving Denver, Lakewood, the Denver Federal Center, Golden and Jeffco.

Construction on the West Corridor is visible in the Denver gulch area, along 6th Avenue in Lakewood and along Colfax Avenue in Golden. Crews have progressed rapidly since Denver Transit Construction Group was awarded full Notice To Proceed in June 2009.
























In the photo above the 6th Avenue Bridge Arch is being assembled to the south of the 6th Avenue highway. This piece of the bridge is scheduled to be rolled across the highway in April 2010.




 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
  







  



The Indiana Bridge construction is underway; crews are currently working on the deck, formwork, and post tensioning process (construction term glossary) on the north and south sides of the 6th Avenue freeway adjacent to Indiana St. (photo above)





 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 










Knox Court was reconstructed to include a three cell drainage culvert. Crews are now pouring bus bays and sidewalks. (photo above)  




 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 










In the photo above, Colfax Avenue was closed overnight when crews placed girders on the structure. Currently crews are working on formwork to pour the deck. In the photo below, these mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls stretch from Indiana St. to Colfax Avenue on the north side of 6th Avenue. Crews have already finished the retaining walls on the south side of 6th Avenue from Indiana St. to Union Blvd.

 


 
 
 
 
 
 
 














The street bridge over the gulch at Federal will be completely rebuilt during the West Corridor project. The photo below shows crews relocating utilities on the first section of the new bridge. Construction on Federal will continue for several months.






 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 
 
 
 
 


 
 

 




In the photo above, crews are working on the retaining walls adjacent to the 6th Avenue Bridge on the north side of 6th Avenue in anticipation of guideway construction.
