A Line windscreens - Sandra Fettingis
Title of art: TUMBLEWEEDS REALLY DO EXISTThis artwork appears on the windscreens at five stations along the University of Colorado A Line between the airport and Union Station. Each station has the same designs, but they will have their own color themes to "help to identify stations for commuter rail users and enhance the current colorless, open and industrial landscape on the East Line," artist Sandra Fettingis said.
She has specific goals for the windscreen art project:
- Enhance the East Line Windscreens with a common element while providing an individual identity to each of the 5 stations.
- Create a "Wow!" and "Welcoming" factor for Denver visitors arriving from the airport.
- Enhance the "bleakness" of the existing colorless landscape along the line.
- Account for the mix of the East Line Corridor: Industrial / Residential / High Plains Prairie
- Maintain 75% transparency for public safety.
Sandra Fettingis has experience creating national and international site specific public installations, murals, gallery exhibits, private commissions, grant awards, a residency, and collaborative and curatorial projects, while professionally working with a variety of people from project to project.
"My work is driven by form and material, while quietly pointing at change, pattern breaking and law of attraction," she said. "Interested in mindful living ideas and practices, these concepts and directions have found their way into my visual practice by way of clean, formulated pattern work via sculptural work, installations and murals."
Some of the places you can find Sandra's art include the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver and the President Hotel at Times Square in New York City. She currently lives and works in Denver in residency at RedLine in RiNo. She's originally from Chicago.
