Why FasTracks?

The Denver region is currently home to 2.8 million people and that number is expected to grow to 4.2 million by 2035. As a result, improvements in transportation infrastructure are critical to maintaining the excellent quality of life that attracts so many to this area. In 2008, RTD carried over 102 million riders. Ridership on the current rail system has exceeded even the most optimistic projections, carrying more than 60,000 riders every weekday.

Short-term and Long-term Benefits
The FasTracks program will provide short-term and long-term benefits the Metro area community.

In the short term the program will provide economic stability and job creation.  At the height of construction, FasTracks is expected to create more than 6,400 direct and indirect jobs. Additionally every $1 invested translates into $4 injected into local economy over 20 years.

In the long-term FasTracks will provide a reliable and safe regional transit system with transportation options that provide environmental benefits and reduced emissions.

Travel Time Comparisons
The following graphics illustrate the estimated travel time for transit commuters versus single-automobile commuters in 2025. These estimates are based on 2004 project and modeling information and are subject to change as each of the corridor projects complete more detailed analysis of the corridor's characteristics (for example: placement and number of stations, final routes) and service plans are developed.
